Our Approach

The majority of our grant-making is focused on multi-year strategic grants aligned with our issue areas. Within our specific areas of interest, we seek to:
Support promising ideas with the strong potential for effectiveness;
Invest in nonprofits with demonstrated evidence of effectiveness;
Focus on work that addresses systemic issues.

We support strong leaders and actively partner with them to create new approaches that address key problems, and/or to devise plans for scaling proven programs. We work side-by-side with potential grantees as partners, providing strategic and tactical expertise when needed. The experience, capacity, and approach of every potential grantee are unique and therefore One8 strives to work with each partner in a way that best meets specific organizational needs.

Underlying all of our work is a rigorous due diligence process. Our engagement with a potential grantee is predicated on a deep and clear understanding of the organization’s goals, leadership potential, theory of change, program and outcomes. We remain involved with our grantees, providing support as needed to ensure goals are achieved. We support and value long-term relationships with our grantees.
